James Brown: Hell

Posted by michael lavorgna in Music, Records, Some Records I Really Enjoy

James Brown
Hell

Four sides of deep pure funk from 1974 brought to you by the Godfather of all things funked. Hell is hot. Smokin‘. Good God.

“He’s too strong, we can’t stop him”
“That’s because he’s the Godfather.”

These guys could play the funk out of the phone book. Killer cover art by Joe Belt. Smokin’. Good God.

no need to look up badass in the dictionary

Bought an extra copy long ago, to insure I’d never be without a copy of “Papa Don’t Take No Mess”. That band was what tight is.

    Absolutely funkadelic!!

Trolled thru’ East Village a while back and managed to score decent vinyl copies of Payback, Revolution of the Mind and this album.

The CDs of the hardest working man in showbizness all seem to sound crappy; the vinyl’s much better and funkier.

Still in print on vinyl, I think, but in any event easy to come by and highly recommended.

That is a hell of a gatefold.
