Noveller
This supremely tasty 7″ 2010 release from Sarah Lipstate/Noveller comes courtesy of FTAM “an organization located in the city of Milwaukee designed specifically to give a home to the DIY experimental and avant garde arts community in Milwaukee.” Noveller‘s music ‘fits’ into the guitar/noise/experimental theme of people like Glenn Branca and Sonic Youth but Sarah plays solo and her focus seems to be shifting toward ecstatic states of sound to be found in layers of harmonic trails and feedback loops.

If you really want to hear Noveller at its current peak, you have to go digital…

Desert Fires
Desert Fires (Saffron Recordings) is Noveller’s newest CD-only release and it glistens, throbs, reverberates and builds a wall of liquid sound that’s captivating and beautiful and moves like slow gentle swells out a sea. ‘Textural guitar soundscapes’ is what Sarah has called her music and while that may seem understated to a certain degree it is perfect. Dive in.
Here are some of Sarah’s favorite records from 2009 (from an interview on foxy digitalis):
Evangelista – Prince of Truth
Talk Normal – Sugarland
Emeralds – What Happened
Jim O’Rourke – The Visitor
Sonic Youth – The Eternal
