Inspiration is the mother of the sincerest form of flattery. The classic American work shirt was made from 100% cotton and included eminently practical details like a pocket for a pack of cigarettes (patented by Reliance!) that opened at the bottom so you could slip your smokes out in a flash, the still popular sewn in pencil slot (why people puts pens in their shirt pocket tip-down remains one of the world’s great mysteries), and the extra long chest pocket to hold extra long stuff.
Today a number of companies make their version of the classic American work shirt or you can pay a few grand for an original. I’m a fan of everything K&TH does (check out that button!) but when practicality and price exert their sobering slap, there’s always the trusty Carhartt 100% cotton (no blends please) Work Wash Twill Shirt for about $25 smackers. But you’ll have to do without that cigarette pocket and extra long stuff.
